January 2007
Hi,
My name is Michael F. Magnant,
Please call me Mike. Born and raised through High School in Indianapolis,
Indiana. Back in the 70's I graduated from the University of Wisconsin (Go
Badgers) with a B.A. in American Institutions; and in the late 80's earned
an M.S. in Systems Management from USC (University of Southern California-Go
Trojans!).
I had a great career in the
Navy, flying over the Atlantic Basin supporting strategic communications to
the Submarines and managing telecommunications and computer systems. I was
regularly called upon to immerse myself in technology and prepare and present
materials to others such that they could put the technology to work. More
than once I ran a Navy school house or Attended Instructor Training. My last
major military school was the Advanced Management Program of the National
Defense University, where we were introduced to Andragogy (Adult education
theory - this was some real outside the box thinking for the Navy in 1989).
Retired from active duty in Washington after a tour aboard the Nation's
mightiest warship the USS Theodore Roosevelt, and then enjoyed 6 years
supporting government contacts mostly related to Information Technology in the
Washington DC area.
I had the opportunity to lead
many interesting projects ranging from an electronic fence for the US/Mexico
border to establishing a Windows NT based network for the CAD/CAM team at the
National Institute of Standards. During the DOT COM boom, I consulted to
Fredericks of Hollywood, Gateway and Danka and a few other Fortune 500
companies, with a focus on the network, backbone hardware and management.
Continuously learning, I have over 24 years experience in Information
Technology and Computers, managing projects, designing and implementing
systems.
Presently my company consults to several small businesses here in Paradise
(did I mention I lived in Paradise on earth in Riverview Florida?) including
an two marine parts and repair companies, an architectural sign maker, and
several other businesses. My intentions is to build a retainer based practice
of 30 and share the wonder and capability of technology with others.
Raising 2 sons has been an
adventure in itself and left some time for 3 weeks per years of scheduled rest
and relaxation. I'd like to do more hiking, and skiing (snow and water), act
in a play, design and install ornamental gardens, and play golf. Higher on
the to-do list are being with my wife, and visiting with family and friends.
Oh and the job jar.
May you have Peace and Freedom
from Random Reboots or computer lockups, Good Luck.
Mike
